Amentum Water Treatment Operator in Fort Carson, Colorado

Amentum is seeking a Water Treatment Operator at Fort Carson, Colorado. The hourly pay for this position will be $34. 27 per hour, with an additional $7.87 - $10.34 towards Health and Welfare Benefits.

PURPOSE AND SCOPE :

The Water Treatment Operator under general supervision performs work of routine difficulty under the guidance and direction of the STP Supervisor and Lead Operator. This is skilled work requiring the efficient operation and maintenance of equipment and facilities. Practices and adheres to all company safety and operational policies.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Operator will perform water testing and calculate chemical additions for treatment. Operator will also perform the routine preventative maintenance and repair of equipment. Starts and stops machinery and pumps, operates valves, observes operation of equipment, and keeps readings in logs. Investigates and resolves basic abnormal conditions. Operator keeps a daily handwritten log of activities that is auditable by state and federal agencies. Uses hand and power tools to make repairs and to perform building and grounds cleaning and maintenance. Controls treatment plant machines and equipment to purify and clarify water for human consumption and for industrial use. Operates and controls electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of raw water into treating plant. Calculates and adds specified amounts of chemicals, such as chlorine, ammonia, and lime into water or adjusts automatic devices that admit specified amounts of chemicals into tanks to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water. Starts agitators to mix chemicals and allows impurities to settle to bottom of tank. Turns valves to regulate water through filter beds to remove impurities. Pumps purified water into water mains. Monitors panel board and adjusts controls to regulator flow rates, loss of head pressure and water elevation and distribution of water. Cleans tanks and filter beds, using backwashing (reverse flow of water). Repairs and lubricates machines and equipment, using hand- and power tools. Tests water samples to determine acidity, color, and impurities, using colorimeter, turbidimeter, and conductivity meter. Dumps chemicals such as alum into tanks to coagulate impurities and reduce acidity. Records data, such as residual content of chemicals, water turbidity, and water pressure.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS:

  • Must be a High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).

  • Must have valid Colorado Water Treatment D license.

  • Must have valid Colorado Water Distribution 1 license.

  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays.

  • Must be able to successfully complete a drug/alcohol test and a criminal record check.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

  • May be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance, including successfully completing a thorough background investigation.

  • For positions requiring use of a Company and/or Customer vehicle, must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy.

  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.

PREFERRED:

  • Certified Pool Operator license preferred.
