Amentum Fire Captain in Hawthorne, Nevada

Amentum is seeking a Fire Captain to join our team in Hawthorne, Nevada to support the Hawthorne Army Depot. The Fire Captain will work with the Assistant Fire Chief execute policies, follow guidance to achieve goals and objectives for the department and specifically for the assigned platoon. The Fire Captain will serve as the Entry Team Officer at all emergency incidents that may occur because of natural forces, major accidents, fire or explosions, oil and hazardous material spills, and/or accidents occurring in confined spaces. Ensure compliance with Company and governmental guidelines and regulations pertaining to the responsibilities of this position. Customarily directs the work of two (2) or more employees. Has the authority to recommend hiring, firing, promotion, and change of status of employees. Work requires the exercise of discretion and independent judgment. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Work with the Assistant Chief to plan and develop policies and establish goals for the Platoon.

  • Primarily responsible for the supervision of one Fire Station and its assigned apparatus.

  • Responds to all emergencies on the Depot with assigned engine company. When first to arrive, shall assume command until relieved by a senior Fire Officer. Act as the Fire Department Entry Team Officer at all emergencies. Instructor for all phases of emergency response, such as firefighting, hazmat response, confined space rescue, etc.; Fire Prevention procedures to be used during company building inspections.

  • Ensure that all firefighting, hazmat, and rescue equipment is tested, repaired, inspected, and maintained.

  • Ensure the inspection, testing, and preventive maintenance of all hydrants, fire alarm boxes, sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers, as assigned.

  • Inspects depot facilities, in coordination with the fire Inspector. Assume duties of Assistant Fire Chief when assigned, including Fire Department operations, records management, and reports preparation.

  • Responsible for reporting potential real environmental concerns to the Environmental Service.

  • May perform other duties of the same or lower level of difficulty as assigned. May be assigned occasional duties of a higher level than those listed above.

  • Duties of this classification may overlap duties performed by employees of other classification.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State of Nevada, Class B CDL driver's license with "F" endorsement.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have received a High School Diploma or Equivalent.

  • Must have and maintain State of Nevada Firefighter I and II certification.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Nevada Emergency Medical Technician I certification.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain OSHA Materials Levels I, II, III and V certification.

  • Must be a United States or naturalized citizen able to obtain and maintain Hawthorne Army Depot (HWAD) site access

  • Must be computer literate in common software applications and able to operate general office equipment

  • Must maintain fitness-for-duty standards to perform the essential functions of the position, to include any HWAD drill, contingency and/or emergency requirement

  • 3 – 5 Years experience in the fire protection/prevention – full time, part time, volunteer or technical training.

  • Applicant must be physically fit to withstand extreme heat, cold, and smoke.

  • Perform arduous climbing, lifting, raising, running, and crawling.

  • Applicant must be able to use simple formulas to compute engine pressures for providing adequate flow of water at the nozzle.

  • Must have a good working knowledge of the care, operation, and maintenance of all fire equipment

  • Must be able to operate auxiliary equipment such as Hurst Rescue

Desired Qualifications:

  • Technical Fire Protection/Prevention training.

  • A thorough knowledge of the Hawthorne Army Depot (HWAD layout.

SAFETY SENSITIVE

This position is designated as a safety sensitive position and is subject to the requirements of the HWAD Medical Surveillance Plan and Matrix and the HWAD A&D Program. As a condition of employment, candidates and incumbents must favorably complete a personnel security investigation, drug testing, medical exam, and respiratory screening, and must meet and maintain personnel suitability and reliability requirements established by 29 CFR and Army Regulations: AR 190-11, AR 190-13 and DOD Contractors Safety Manual 4145.26.
