Amentum Electronics Engineer in Umm Qasr, Iraq

Amentum is seeking an Electronics Engineer to support the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic systems and equipment onboard various naval vessels to include 60-meter Offshore Support Vessels (OSV), 35-meter Patrol Boats (PB), and 26-foot Defender Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIB). This position supports the Iraq Vessel Maintenance and Repair (VMR) program. This position is for a full-time, in-country position. The work location will be at the Iraqi Naval Base in the port of Umm Qasr, Iraq.

Essential responsibilities and daily duties will include:

  • Responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of electronics systems and equipment aboard the OSV, PB and DEFENDER RHIB vessels.

  • Collaborate and coordinate with key members of the VMR support team to effectively plan, execute, and report tasking associated with OSV, PB and DEFENDER RHIB vessels to include the site manager, industrial manager, supply chain specialists, electronics engineers, electricians, and other technical support personnel.

  • Provide technical expertise, guidance, and supervision of electricians to ensure the successful completion of all installation, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of hull, mechanical, electrical, weapons, and electronic systems aboard OSV, PB and DEFENDER RHIB vessels.

  • Continuously monitor the progress of all work aboard the OSV, PB and DEFENDER RHIB platforms to verify safe work practices, work quality and adherence to the Integrated Master Schedule.

  • Identify all issues that impact safety, quality, or task schedules and notify the Site Manager and Industrial Manager.

  • Provide recommendations to the Site Manager and Industrial Manager to mitigate identified issues.

  • Provide technical assistance and support to customers regarding the installation, operation, and maintenance of electronic systems and equipment.

  • Conducting on-site evaluations of shipboard electronic systems and equipment and identify any issues.

  • Developing solutions or recommendations to minimize system/equipment downtime and collaborate with both the customer and internal teams to ensure customer satisfaction.

  • Assessing work requirements to identify the materials needed.

  • Conduct site surveys to understand each project’s scope and identify any potential issues that may arise.

  • Installation and configuration of equipment as required. Ensure that the equipment is properly installed, configured to perform optimally, and tested for any defects.

  • Use their knowledge to tackle technical issues that could potentially cause delays. Troubleshooting efforts often include identifying the root cause of the issue, testing and assessing equipment, and proposing solutions to prevent reoccurrence.

  • Provide regular progress reports to the customer TPOC regarding field engineering support activities.

  • Participate in required meetings including weekly teleconferences and Work Definition Conferences with program stakeholders.

  • Comply with all Contract Deliverable Requirement List (CRDL) requirements.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Five (5) years of increasing engineering management responsibility.

  • Two (2) years of ship or submarine construction or repair/overhaul experience.

  • Must have good communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Foreign Military Sales experience
